Evil Ryu & Violent Ken join the SSF2 Turbo roster for Shoto-clone Heaven!

Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers adds two new playable characters to the iconicStreet Fighter 2 roster (for the first time in over 2 decades).. Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. Toquickly recap the storyline significance of these characters:The 'evil' version of Ryuhas succumbed to the Satsui no Hado and is now obsessed with fighting in orderto prove he is the strongest. His former honorable self has been purged,allowing him to enjoy absolute power and embrace an unquenchable bloodthirst forbattle.

Violent Ken is the result of M.Bison kidnapping and brainwashing Ken, enhancing his abilities with Psycho Powerand twisting his brotherly rivalry with Ryu into hatred. Violent Ken is moreruthless, aggressive, and fearless with moves that feature purple flames insteadof his signature fire. FUN FACT: Violent Ken's only playableappearance before Ultra SF2 was in SNK VS Capcom: Chaos.

Ultra Street Fighter 2 features two main graphics options.Players can choose to display the 2008-style UDON redrawn sprites andbackgrounds orthe original pixel versions (which will include a border onscreen - picturedabove). Ultra Street Fighter 2 on Switch will be playablewith 2-players in 'TV Mode' and 'Table Mode', while 'Portable Mode'will be single-player only. In addition, a 2-VS-1'Dynamic Battle' mode is also featured in the game.
Arcade Mode features a 'Standby Function' allowing you to acceptchallengers at any time. The game supports Local battles, enabling youwirelessly fight other players near your location. For online battles,'Player Points (PP)' and 'Battle Points (BP)' are awarded for victories in Ranked Match. Ranked Matchallows players to checktheir rank based on points and search for other players using various optionsand conditions. Casual Match does not award or deductpoints. Different types of Ranked Match options, include: Quick Match, CustomMatch, Create Match and Friend Match.

Color Edit Mode.. COOL. Something you can actually do with those Switch controllers.

Ultra Street Fighter 2will include a bonus mode called 'The Way of Hado'. In this mode,players equip the Nintendo Switch Joycons and use motion controls to have Ryuthrow Hadoukens, Shoryukens and Hurricane Kicks at incoming Shadaloo soldiers.While it looks mildly entertaining for a few minutes, it looks to be mostly a'novelty' type mode aimed to attract (very) casual players.

Color Edit Mode will also make its way to the game, allowing players to customize SF2's iconic fighters with the system's touchscreen. Players can save up to 10 custom colors per character and use them in Arcade, Versus, and Online battles. Also announced is a Gallery mode featuring 'over 1400' illustrations from the artbook SF20: The Art of Street Fighter (in 250 dpi resolution).Ultra Street Fighter 2 will be release May 26th, 2017 worldwide for about$40 USD.

My first impression was.. isthis necessary? I know Capcom wanted tosimplify the name and all.. but let's call this game what it really is, shall we? Say it withme.ULTRA Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix: The Final Challengers -Switch Edition. Awesome. I guess.
It would seem Ultra SF2 will be a good 'test run' for how fighting games arehandled on the Nintendo Switch.I couldn't think of a more fundamental, appropriate game for such a task,actually. Super Turbo is an iconic classic, butmany would argue that the engine is abit 'played out' after 23+ years. (Certain hardcore folks would retortsuch a suggestion,but that's besides the point.)
Two new 'shoto-clones' for a 10-year-old remake of a 1994 game isn'tgoing to be an insta-buy for non-hardcore Super Turbo players.Especially not for the full price of $40. Wow. Not tomention, this is a Street Fighter game on a new Nintendo console..potentially requiring you to buy a new fightstick orfightpad? (Are we at $400 yet?) That's quite an investment, to drive a very old fighting game engine.But certain people do enjoy classic cars, I suppose? Whether or not Ultra SF2looks like it's going to floatyour boat, it'll be'interesting' seeing the Nintendo Switch's fighting game capabilities, andwhat types of new modes and options will appear in Ultra Street Fighter 2. ~TFGWebmaster

To quickly recap the storyline significance of these characters: The 'evil' version of Ryu has succumbed to the Satsui no Hado and is now obsessed with fighting in order to prove he is the strongest. Also SNK may have some rights to an evil Ken. The chance for capcom to pull that was SFA, given the SF2 animemovie that SNK lifted the evil Ken from was (Bison controled) what inspired the Alpha series. SFA used a Bison controlled (non SnH) Ryu in the gamestory.

BIO:

When Ken Mastersabsorbed the Orochi power in SNK VS Capcom: Chaos, he became Violent Ken. This 'evil' version of Ken was inspired by Sennou Ken (which literally means 'brainwashed Ken' in Japanese), who debuted in Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie where he is being controlled by M. Bison. Violent Ken uses purple flames in his Shoryuken, not unlike Akuma's.

As with all trading card games, players construct their own decks out of cards from their collection. When a player's deck runs out of cards, that player automatically loses the duel.Each player's deck must have a minimum of 40 cards in it. Ryu has an evilform.. so why not Ken?! Ken's evil incarnation in the Street Fighter 2 animatedmovie was actually badass if you ask me, so his fighting game iteration waswell-deserved (and it sure took long enough). Violent Ken's poofy whiteafro is something else.. I think SNK was trolling Capcom a bit there!^o^ Indeed that is a comical and random hairstyle, especially the way it's drawn in the official SVC: Chaos artwork (but somehow, also kinda cool?).On that note, it's also pretty odd that Ken's hair is 'back to normal'in the in-game SVC dialogue artwork and his character sprite. Weird..(and intriguing?). Nonetheless, Violent Ken turned out to be a pretty cool character in SVC: Chaos.Though still a shoto at heart, his powered-up moves and teleporting abilitiesdefinitely put an interesting spin on classic Ken.
